Wanna Sing? Wanna Drum?
JOIN OUR PAPANA MUSIC CAMP!
Under the leadership of Kahu Heather Barfield, our church is dedicated to dig deeper, be rooted, and spread our branches to reach out to the community. We would like to extend that effort to the children and youth of the area. The Kaumakapili Church Youth dreamed of providing a space for people to gather and connect. We are starting a music circle at our church where all participants can feel safe and grow using the power of music.
There are numerous testimonies and studies on the positive effects of music-making across all age groups. Improved attention and health are just a few of the many benefits. When done as a group, these benefits are multiplied. Aunty Kaori has had the privilege of incorporating music into many programs, and she has seen positive and engaging behaviors, along with an improved desire to perform for others. Activities are designed to emphasize the joy of team building, the importance of respecting and encouraging one another, and the desire to always give their best just as Jesus taught us.
It will be held for children and youth ages 7 and up over the last weekend; Friday to Sunday, August 1-3, before the new school year begins. The dates should be convenient for families who are looking for venues after most summer fun programs end in July. Plus, it will be free of charge, and lunch will be provided.

Please register HERE by July 28.

Pacific Gateway Center (PGC) was founded in response to the mass migration of Southeast Asians to Hawaii’s shores following the Vietnam War by the Palama Council of Churches in Hawai‘i that included St. Elizabeth’s Church, Kaumakapili Church, and Aldersgate Church. Immigrants, refugees, and the economically-disadvantaged live under broad conditions of vulnerability, countless being displaced from their home countries due to political instability, war, and civil conflict. Upon arrival to the United States, risk factors include social and culture exclusion, stereotyping, poverty, lack of job and communication skills, limited education, financial opportunities, housing and food support services, and healthcare. Our programs mitigate these challenges by addressing these risk factors and critical needs of our targeted populations.
